support bds now

We haven’t had time to work on the regular BDS end-of-year fundraiser this year, as we’ve been, like many Palestinians and solidarity activists everywhere, overwhelmed with the necessary response to Israel’s ongoing #GazaGenocide.

But we know that our work and the global demand for effective, principled and strategic BDS campaigning and pressure have grown enormously. When we collectively succeed in imposing a permanent ceasefire and lifting the siege, our work will increase even more. Israel’s genocidal policies will only end once its 75-year-old regime of settler-colonialism and apartheid is dismantled. To that end, pushing for unprecedented accountability will become our top priority.

Israel’s live-streamed genocide is unprecedented in history. It has banned the entry of live-sustaining food, water, fuel and medical supplies to 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. In parallel, it has deliberately destroyed hospitals, universities, schools, UN shelters, bakeries, solar panels, carpet-bombing residential neighborhoods, telecommunications facilities, water and sewage treatment infrastructure.

Based on the depraved, dehumanizing statements and revealed plans of its fascist leaders, Israel is “rolling out” a “second Nakba,” ethnically cleansing Indigenous Palestinians en masse, and as admitted by Israeli military officials, “everything is intentional.” This has prompted UN experts to warn of a “genocide in the making” and forced the timid UN Secretary General to accuse Israel of turning Gaza into a “graveyard for children” and of posing a serious threat to world peace and security.

After a critical mass of pressure ultimately stops the genocide, we shall need to escalate BDS like never before to end business-as-usual with this genocidal regime in every field, academic, cultural, sports, economic, military, financial, etc. Apartheid Israel deserves the apartheid South Africa treatment: massive boycotts, divestment and unprecedented lawful sanctions, starting with a comprehensive military embargo.

Israel’s genocide has been “in the making” for decades. In Gaza, it’s now far deadlier, more visible, and indeed televised. The Palestinian leadership of the global BDS movement promises our people in Gaza, across historic Palestine, and in exile that we shall not rest until we’ve built the necessary people’s power to dismantle Israel’s regime of settler-colonial apartheid, the root cause of this oppression and unspeakable violence.

Help the BDS movement grow our impact to honor this promise

today, nov 29th, international day of solidarity with the palestinian people

TODAY November 29th, is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, and the #BDS movement is calling for an all day social media storm. Our physical and digital actions can be used together to strengthen our demands:

  • Permanent ceasefire and lifting the siege to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
  • Lawful sanctions on Israel, including a #MilitaryEmbargo.
  • Pressure on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders

Click here for prepared messages and images to use for the social media storm.

Over the last 7 weeks, millions of you have taken to the streets for the largest protests the world has seen in the last 20 years! We are grateful to each one of you who, through your voices and creative actions, have built up unprecedented grassroots power to end Israel’s genocidal war against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza. Yet, Western governments are continuing to arm, fund and provide political cover for Israel’s genocide.

We must act urgently to end all state, corporate and institutional complicity with Israel’s genocidal apartheid regime. Palestinian lives and livelihoods literally depend on it. To this end, and as time has shown, BDS is the most effective form of solidarity with the Palestinian liberation struggle.

Today, we call for escalating worldwide peaceful mobilizations and expressions of meaningful solidarity to stop the genocide including:

  1. Whenever feasible, organizing peaceful disruptions, sit-ins, occupations, etc.
  2. Disrupting the transport of weapons, or weapon parts, to Israel, including in transit states.
  3. Pressuring parliaments and governments to cancel existing military-security contracts and agreements with Israel.
  4. Intensifying campaigns and campaigns to cut all ties to apartheid Israel and its complicit academic and cultural institutions as well as sports teams.
  5. Mobilizing your community, trade union, association, church, social network, student government/union, city council, cultural center, etc. to declare itself an Apartheid Free Zone (AFZ).
  6. Pressuring your elected officials to demand the International Criminal Court (ICC) issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. The ICC prosecutor should be replaced if he continues to drag his feet and ignore his legal obligations to stop the genocide

If not now, when?
Unite now to stop #GazaGenocide and dismantle Israeli apartheid

palestinians thank artists boycotting apartheid israel-partnered pop kultur berlin

At least four artists withdrew from the festival, joining fifteen others since 2017.

Palestinians thank Lafawndah (and bandmate Trustfall), Alewya, Franky Gogo and Gigsta for withdrawing from @popkulturberlin, that is partnered with apartheid Israel #PK22

Four artists have withdrawn from Pop Kultur Berlin this year, in protest at its partnership with apartheid Israel! They join at least fifteen others to have boycotted the music festival since 2017, responding to private and public appeals from human rights defenders.

Parisian artist Lafawndah wrote in her eloquent statement that “the festival’s stance is an effective show of support for racism, colonial brutality and murder, despite its savvy marketing language touting inclusion, diversity and tolerance.”

But Pop Kultur Berlin is still insisting on continuing its partnership with apartheid Israel, claiming that artwashing Israel’s apartheid regime and massacres in Gaza is “common practice”. It must have missed the thousands of artists who have endorsed the cultural boycott of Israel.

Even now, prominent German politicians allied to the festival are condemning the campaign and the principled artists who supported it and launching cynical smears against them. Let’s show once again that our collective impact is greater than these desperate, anti-Palestinian attacks.

Not on Twitter? You can also copy the below comment and post it onto the festival’s Instagram & Facebook pages.

Thank you Lafawndah & Trustfall, Alewya, Franky Gogo and Gigsta for withdrawing from #PopKulturBerlin! All artists should boycott the festival until it drops its partnership with apartheid Israel. No progressive festival artwashes massacres. #PK22

the story of maya edery

JVP member Maya Edery shares her journey away from Zionism and toward support for Palestinian liberation — a journey that more and more Jews are embarking on, in part thanks to Maya herself!
In this interview, Maya discusses how her family’s history of oppression — as Ashkenazi Jews in Auschwitz and as Moroccan Jews experiencing state violence in Israel — has informed how she views oppression and resistance to oppression. She describes the kind of Zionist propaganda instilled in her while she was growing up and remembers her moments of revelation about Palestine. Finally, she talks about her responsibility to support the BDS movement as well as to challenge Zionism and white supremacy in Jewish communities, despite the accusations of antisemitism weaponized against those who do so.
